Egyptian social e-commerce startup Taager expands to Morocco

Egyptian social commerce startup Taager, which has already expanded into Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has announced its launch in Morocco.

Launched in December 2019, Taager is a social e–commerce marketplace that provides online sellers and traders with a complete suite of backend and integrated services, from operational and logistical infrastructure such as storage and shipping to an online marketplace to host their products, connecting sellers with wholesalers.

The company uses technology, AI and data science to enable first time sellers to start and scale their online business seamlessly with relatively low risk. It offers a transparent pricing structure and an enhanced product selection process, freeing online sellers to focus on running their business while Taager handles the end to end operations.

Since its inception, the platform has empowered over 65,000 independent sellers, from digital  marketers seeking extra income to influencers monetizing their audiences and entrepreneurs  expanding their online reach. In February, it raised a US$6.75 million pre-Series B funding round to help it continue to expand within the MENA region.

The decision to expand into Morocco reflects Taager’s ambition to accelerate growth in promising digital economies across the region.

“We see Morocco as one of the most dynamic and exciting e-commerce markets in North Africa, with a young, connected population and a rapidly evolving digital ecosystem. Our goal is to deliver an inclusive e-commerce empowerment platform that enables anyone to start and scale an online business,” said Abdelrahman Sherief, co-founder of Taager.

The Moroccan operations will be headed by Salma Ammor, an experienced leader who has overseen multiple large-scale digital launches across Africa and the MENA region.

“Our mission is straightforward: to give every Moroccan – regardless of their starting point – the  opportunity to build and grow an online business. We aim to offer a reliable, inclusive and high performance launchpad for a new generation of Moroccan e-commerce entrepreneurs. Taager will not have local operations in Morocco for now; our presence will be focused on staying close to our community of Moroccan sellers, while operational activities are managed in countries Taager is currently active in within the MENA region,’’ Ammor said.
