Ebbets Field Sports Bar and Patio will reopen in early 2026 after new owners purchased the Springfield staple.
Sydney and Jerrad Davis, both 28, closed on the purchase July 11 and plan to reopen Ebbets in a nostalgic spirit, tentatively planned for early spring 2026, Sydney Davis said in a phone interview July 23. Sydney Davis, a Springfield native, worked at the restaurant in college and has long eyed purchasing the Springfield staple.
“Ever since I worked here, I’ve always said if the opportunity arose I actually wanted to buy the place,” Davis said.
After a 29-year run on Walnut Street near downtown Springfield, Ebbets Field closed in January 2024. The restaurant originally opened on Cherry Street in 1981 before moving to its current location at 1027 E. Walnut St. in 1994.
The property was purchased by Bryan Properties in 2018 and the property company entered into a food and beverage management contract with Good Spirits & Co., Bryan Properties spokesperson Ron Davis said July 23. Good Spirits & Co. owner Josh Widner did not respond to a phone call seeking comment for this story.
“We really wish the buyer great success because Ebbets is a great institution in Springfield,” Ron Davis said in a phone interview.
“Bryan Properties is a property development and management (company), especially motels, multifamily communities. A restaurant was definitely the outlier. So, it’s streamlining on this end, and putting it in really good hands of somebody who can build it.”
New owners work on a tight timeline to reopen in early spring 2026

Ebbets Field has sat closed for about 18 months and there is a lot of work to be done to get the restaurant back up and running, Sydney Davis said.
For the Davis clan, the timeline has moved quickly. Sydney and Jerrad Davis were married in early 2025, living in St. Louis at the time. Right after the marriage, the couple learned that Ebbets was up for sale. They acted fast.
“Within 60 days of marriage, we actually got married, had our honeymoon, bought the bar and moved back to Springfield,” Sydney Davis said. “So, it’s been a pretty quick transition.
“My husband knew that I always wanted to buy a bar; it was in our 10-year plan. We weren’t expecting it to be in the first two months of marriage, but, yeah, we’re really excited for this place specifically.”
Sydney Davis declined to disclose the financial terms of the purchase. Greene County Assessor’s Office records do not reflect the most recent sale, but show that Bryan Investments LLC purchased the property in 2018. At just over 5,800 square feet, the restaurant was appraised at just over $320,000. The new co-owners started Gibco Restaurants LLC on July 3, 2025, to manage the business, according to Missouri Secretary of State records.
“At the moment, this is our main priority,” Sydney Davis said. “This is my husband and I’s first purchase of a bar and restaurant in general. So, this will definitely be like our baby. No plans for the near future to expand or buy anything else.”
